TOP OF THE WORLD RIDE--another quicky from Eureka--

From Myrtle ave. off of 5th street in Eureka or from Samoa blvd. near Arcata the road called either Myrtle (near Eureka) or Old Arcata road (near Arcata) can be accessed--it parallels 101 on the east side and about half way between the two towns there is a 3 way intersection with Freshwater Rd.. It goes east--take it and after about 5 miles of flat road you get into some really well maintained paved twisty road that takes you to the top of the hills--
a quick right at the top will take you over to the antenna area and a gorgeous view of the whole Humboldt bay. Over the top of the summit there is an airport, used when Eureka is socked in--not uncommon for weather to be warmer up there--pic above is from the side of the road about 1/4 mile from the airport--a 3 way junction that is the starting point for the ride on the next page--

There are NO facilities on this ride--NO food or gas for sale--cell coverage is good--trip from 101 to the top is about 18 miles--the top is like the axle of a wheel with rides off in all directions, 299 to the north and the legendary 36 to the south--- the launch point at the bottom has a small market at the junction of Myrtle and Freshwater--road is all paved until you get up to the top--cruiser, sportbike, 2 up, all good here.....
