SHOWER'S PASS Loop ride--

For dual sport riders I think it would be tough to exceed this experience--portal to portal from the mini gas mart on Myrtle ave. in Eureka up and back it is roughly 80 miles. The best time to ride it is fall and winter--they don't seem to grade it in the summer but after the first rain they keep it smoooooth--! AND the dust is minimal if not at all--On the previous page there is a pic of an XL 350 and an SL 350--that was taken at a junction just on the backside of the Kneeland summit--make a right there and the first couple of miles is a gorgeous switchback, smoothly paved section like out of a Swiss Rally show---from there on there is alternating paved and dirt with maybe 80 or 90 % dirt----This road is a 37 mile shot to a little town called Bridgeville (of ebay fame) on hwy 36 and is about an hour on the two bikes shown. about 1/3 of the way down there is a well marked left turn to the Shower's Pass road--after the left about 1/4 mile there is a right to the Shower's Pass road proper--if you didn't take that ride the road would take you back to where you started up by the airport--if you do take the right you will be travelling through a 5000 acre private gun club--all these are county roads and perfectly legal to ride on. The no trespassing signs are to keep wackos from getting off of the main dirt roads and carving erosion slices in the adjacent private land.
Stay on the road--there are plenty of pullouts to rest on---
Elevations run to maybe almost 5k ft and the scenery is unbelievable. The road is about 2/3 of a circle and comes back to the Kneeland and Bridgeville road--you can either take a left and go over to 36 and then right on the pavement about 3 miles to a mini mart/gas station with microwave food---
or you can make a right and eventually wind up at the top again by the airport---
Highly recommended trip--I know people that have done this on SR500s and various other street bikes--sportbike with clipons would be tough--
Traffic is almost non-existent. The road is traversed with garden variety passenger cars--there is occasionally livestock on the road, there are cattle guards to ramp over--
I have never seen a logging truck on this road--don't die without riding this at least once---

The above circular ride is within a larger loop which is the Titlow, 299 to 36 pavement ride which IS clipon friendly--see the next page-----

pics below of a portion of Shower's Pass taken last january--(we have a secret--we are NOT as gloomy up here as most people think)

I think this was May 04--looking back northwest to the starting point near the antennae.
